Japan Coast Guard to get cash injection
Japan is proposing to raise the budget of its overworked coast guard in the coming fiscal year, giving it its largest funding ever.
The government of Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has tapped JPY210 billion ($1.83 billion) for the Japan Coast Guard (JCG), which is working overtime in the East China Sea to fend off Chinese intrusions centred around the Senkaku/Diaoyu Islands.
The JCG will be pleased with a nearly 12% increase in its upcoming budget, especially considering that it only requested JPY200.5 billion for itself.
The proposed budget will rise by some JPY20 billion. This increase includes some JPY10 billion
