iXblue inertial navigation system to equip new Australian OPVs
The 12 new Arafura-class (Project Sea 1180) OPVs for the Royal Australian Navy (RAN) will be equipped with inertial navigation systems and gyrocompasses from iXblue.
This fibre-optic technology will provide the vessels with ‘highly accurate and reliable navigation capabilities in all environments, including within GNSS-denied operational areas’, according to the company.
France-based iXblue has a 15-year association with the Australian armed forces, including the provision of specialist geospatial services. It recently completed the first commercial hydrographic survey project under the Project Sea 2400 Hydrographic Industry Partnership Programme.
