Ireland seeks to upgrade Samuel Beckett class
The Irish Naval Service has opened a tender for the provision of a variable-speed upgrade to central cooling and pumping systems on its Samuel Beckett-class OPVs (also known as the P60 class).
Interested parties must respond by 6 April.
An estimated €500,000 ($595,000) will be spent on the two-year project (with three one-year options), although the Irish MoD did not indicate whether some or all of the four vessels in the Samuel Beckett class will be included in the upgrade.
The OPVs are deployed to monitor the 200-mile Irish EEZ. They each measure 90m in length with a beam of 14m, draught of 3.8m and displacement of 1,900t. The vessels are powered by two Wärtsilä 12V26 diesel engines.
