IMDEX Asia 2019: First Taiwanese submarine to be ready in 2026

Taiwan’s Indigenous Defense Submarines (IDS) will be built in a new facility inside the grounds of the CSBC Corporation in Kaohsiung harbour in southern Taiwan, with a ground-breaking ceremony held there on 9 May.

Three buildings will be erected by CSBC. Besides a utility building, the two ship block construction and assembly buildings will feature roofs to prevent hostile nations from collecting data via satellite imagery.

On the occasion of the ground-breaking event, CSBC handed over a scale model of an IDS submarine to a Republic of China Navy (ROCN) representative.
