Hensoldt modernises radars for German Navy
German defence procurement agency BAAINBw has placed an order with Hensoldt to upgrade the TRS-3D radars on two German Navy Braunschweig-class (K130) corvettes and an associated shore facility.
The value of the deal was undisclosed amount but Hensoldt announced on 15 February that ‘deliveries will take place in the course of this year’.
TRS-3D is a modular multimode medium-range air and surface surveillance system, designed for the automatic detection and tracking of all types of air and sea targets. It can operate in conjunction with the Hensoldt MSSR 2000 I secondary surveillance radar.
More than 60 of the radars are in service worldwide; according to Shephard Defence Insight, customer navies include Denmark, Finland, Germany, Malaysia, Norway, Spain and the US.
Hensoldt is also equipping the second batch of K130 corvettes with its TRS-4D Rotator naval radar and MSSR 2000.
