DARPA awards research contract for underwater sensing
General Dynamics subsidiary Applied Physical Sciences (APS) has received a $18.82 million contract from DARPA for R&D into undersea sensing systems, with an estimated completion date of October 2021.
FY2020 R&D funds of $15.06 million have been obligated.
The vast majority of the work (84%) will be carried out at sites in Massachusetts, with the remainder in Virginia (7%), California (5%) and Connecticut (4%).
APS designs and fabricates a wide range of sensors and sensing systems for applications such as underwater acoustics, remote sensing of ocean waves, structural vibrations, and remote optical sensing of fluid velocity.
Besides DARPA, R&D customers for APS include the Office of Naval Research.
