Capability and cash worries for USCG
Amid the headlines and clamour created by a supposed billion dollar cut in the US Coast Guard’s budget the force’s commandant, Adm Paul Zukunft, has presented in detail the service’s strengths and shortfalls.
In his State of the United States Coast Guard speech on 16 March Zukunft highlighted the urgent need for more unmanned aerial vehicles and a re-capitalisation of the inland waterways fleet.
Meanwhile he praised the work that the personnel of the USCG are performing in preventing drug and people trafficking and working to ensure the maritime security within its areas of responsibility.
