The International Maritime Bureau says that piracy has fallen to a 22-year global low in its latest annual report on maritime security.

A total of 180 incidents of piracy and armed robbery against ships were reported to the International Chamber of Commerce’s (ICC) International Maritime Bureau (IMB) in 2017, though not all such attacks are reported. However, although the IMB report shows a continuation in the decline of piracy globally the Gulf of Guinea remains a pirate hotspot.
