US Army orders AT4CS RS
The US Army has issued an order to Saab for the shoulder-launched AT4CS Reduced Sensitivity (RS) anti-armour weapon system, the company announced on 15 September. The system is expected to be delivered in 2016.
The AT4CS RS is a preloaded, disposable weapon with a unique shaped-charge warhead, designed to deliver outstanding behind-armour-effects inside the target. The insensitive munition (IM) characteristics of the AT4CS RS have also improved with this warhead.
The anti-armour weapon can be used against tanks and heavy combat vehicles, threats in buildings and fortifications, and can also be employed to protect fixed installations, supply points and other vital assets.
Görgen Johansson, head, Saab Business Area Dynamics, said: 'This is another great milestone for Saab and the AT4 system. This new order demonstrates the continued belief by the customer in the capabilities and versatility of our product, as well as its future potential.
'Together with the major December 2014 order from the French armed forces, this order emphasises that Saab is the leading supplier in the shoulder-launched product segment.'
The AT4 product range includes the AT4CS ER (extended range), AT4CS HE (high explosive), AT4 HEAT (high explosive anti-tank), confined space (CS) and anti-structure tandem (CS AST) variants.
