The US state department has approved a potential foreign military sale of ammunition for the Royal Saudi Land Forces (RSLF), the Defense Security Cooperation Agency announced on 29 July.
Saudi Arabia requested one million 430/M430A1 40mm high explosive dual purpose cartridges, 60,000 M456A1 105mm high explosive anti-tank tracer cartridges, and 60,000 M107 155mm high explosive projectiles.
The additional items include M62 7.62mm 4 ball/1 tracer linked cartridges, .50cal linked cartridges, M792 25mm high explosive incendiary tracer cartridges and M889A2 81mm high explosive cartridges with M783 fuzes. Other items requested include 2.75 inch rockets with M151 high explosive warhead and point-detonating fuzes, 105mm high explosive M1 cartridges without fuzes, M557 point-detonating fuzes and Guided Precision Aerial Delivery System (GPADS).
The ammunition will resupply the RSLF in order to continue protecting Saudi Arabia's southern border from Houthi militia and Al-Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula forces.
If it goes ahead the package will be valued at an estimated $500 million.
