Ukraine starts massive procurement drive
Ukraine has launched a massive programme of arms purchases and plans to invest some $3 billion in new hardware, including new armoured vehicles, aircraft, helicopters, warships and naval craft.
As well as the delivery of new BTR armoured personnel carriers, the Ministry of Defence plans to purchase new domestically-produced small arms, thermal and night vision cameras, and special communications equipment.
Much of the equipment will be supplied to the Ukrainian army by the end of the year and wider modernisation efforts are scheduled for the period of 2015-2017.
