RBSL receives Boxer production subcontract
Rheinmetall Landsysteme has awarded Rheinmetall BAE Systems Land (RBSL, the UK-based JV between Rheinmetall and BAE Systems) a £860 million ($1.14 billion) subcontract to produce Boxer vehicles for the British Army under the Mechanised Infantry Vehicle (MIV) programme.
More than 260 command post and carrier variants of Boxer will be built by RBSL at its Telford facility, the JV announced on 24 November.
The announcement on 24 November came five days after KMW concluded a ten-year deal with WFEL for production of Boxer hulls, as well as a deal for assembly, integration and test of approximately 250 vehicles.
The £2.3 billion MIV contract was awarded by the UK MoD to the ARTEC consortium involving KMW and Rheinmetall in November 2019.
In all, the British Army expects to receive 523 Boxer vehicles, with production divided between RBSL and WFEL.
Shephard Defence Insight forecasts delivery of the first production Boxer by November 2022. Four variants will be provided: standard APC, carrier, command post and ambulance.
