Qinetiq selected to provide GCV transmission system
The BAE Systems-Northrop Grumman team for the US Army’s Ground Combat Vehicle (GCV) programme has selected Qinetiq to provide its E-X-Drive transmission as the ‘key component’ of the hybrid electric drive propulsion system.
The move was announced by Qinetiq on 2 February, and the decision to use the system ‘marks a significant step forward from conventional hydro-mechanical transmissions in terms of efficiency, size, weight, reliability and flexibility’, a company statement said.
According to Qinetiq, the E-X-Drive offers improved acceleration, agility, fuel efficiency and maintainability compared to the systems used on other combat vehicles, and ‘enables fundamental changes in vehicle configuration
