Kongsberg to update ASLAV Protector RWS
Kongsberg will update and overhaul the Protector M151 Remote Weapon Stations (RWS) in use with the Australian Defence Force (ADF) under a new contract announced on 20 December.
The ADF’s 59 Protector M151s equip the ADF’s Australian Light Armoured Vehicle (ASLAV) fleet. They were acquired in 2004 under a rapid acquisition contract ahead of operational rotation in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Under this contract Kongsberg will update and overhaul the RWS to the current standards.
The Protector RWS is designed for small and medium calibre weapons and can be installed on any type of platform; it is a fully stabilised, combat proven system qualified for global operations. The Protector Weapon Control System protects military troops by allowing the vehicle's weapons to be operated from a protected position inside the vehicle.
Delivery is expected to take place in September 2014.
