Javelin ATGM goes light
The Raytheon/Lockheed Martin Javelin Joint Venture (JJV) is developing a lighter weight, multipurpose variant of the FGM-148 Javelin fire-and-forget anti-tank guided missile, it has emerged.
Dubbed the ‘G-Model’, the weapon is scheduled to enter service by the end of the decade.
Under a three-phase, funded spiral development programme, JJV will substitute the current long wave IR cooled seeker for an uncooled seeker for improved detection, recognition and identification, and a faster engagement capability.
The uncooled seeker dispenses with the necessity of an external battery coolant unit (which houses the battery and compressed-gas coolant sections) and the gas lines, with attendant
