Japan shows new Type 16 MCV
A single Type 16 Manoeuvre Combat Vehicle (16MCV) appeared at the Fuji Firepower demonstration in Japan on 27 August. However, instead of the expected production model, the participant was only a prototype.
The Fuji Tank School Unit will field the first production 16MCVs in mid-September.
The 16MCV 8x8 vehicle of the Japan Ground Self-Defence Force (JGSDF) is armed with a 105mm L/52 rifled gun based on the Royal Ordnance L7. It fires Type 91 HEAT-MP and Type 93 APFSDS rounds as does the Type 74 tank, although it is difficult for these rounds to penetrate the frontal armour of third-generation
