IDEF 2019: Turkish defence industry serious about green power
Hybrid and electric power is gaining traction in Turkey with two of the nation’s defence companies displaying green vehicles at IDEF 2019 recognising high potential of the technology, but issues over cost remain.
Otokar displayed the all-electric reconnaissance vehicle the Akrep II for the first time. The technology demonstrator was developed as a solution to an ‘engineering challenge’ of producing a vehicle with low thermal signature and low sound footprint.
Its battery means it is able to meet these requirements where a traditional full diesel engine powered vehicle wouldn’t have been able to, explained Akif Akfert, military vehicles engineering group
