German land systems industry consolidation continues
Krauss-Maffei Wegmann (KMW) has concluded the acquisition of Diehl Defence Land System´s (DLS) operative business as Germany’s land systems industry continues to consolidate.
Under a contract that is still subject to approval by the antitrust authorities, Diehl DLS’ portfolio of tank tracks and suspension systems – which equipped a number of the German Army’s tracked vehicles – has been acquired by a subsidiary of KMW.
Recent innovations that will be added to KMW’s portfolio include Diehl DLS’ advanced lightweight tracks, developed for the Puma infantry combat vehicle, and segmented rubber band tracks. Diehl has also provided extensive maintenance, repair and modernisation services for military customers.
With the transferral of its vehicle business, Diehl will increasingly focus on its core business comprising guided weapons, intelligent ammunition as well as impact and protection.
