Finland set to obtain Extended Range GMLRS
Finland is on track to buy Extended Range Guided Multiple Launch Rocket Systems (GMLRS) from Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control, as part of a $91.2 million FMS package approved by the US State Department on 17 February.
The proposed deal comprises 25 M30A2 Extended Range GMLRS – Alternative Warhead (ER GMLRS-AW) pods and ten M31A2 Extended Range Guided Multiple Launch Rocket Systems – Unitary (ER GMLRS-U) pods, as well as technical and logistical support.
‘Finland intends to expand its existing army architecture to counter potential threats,’ the State Department announced. ‘This will contribute to the Finland military’s goal to upgrade its capability while enhancing interoperability between Finland, the United States, and other partners.’
Finland had 180 GMLRS units on order (half of which were delivered) before the latest ER GMLRS order, according to data from Shephard Defence Insight.
