Russia plans to invest billions in Black Sea Fleet
The Russian government plans to invest up to 86.7 billion roubles ($2.8 billion) by 2020 in the development of the national Black Sea Fleet, it has emerged.
According to a recent statement by Sergei Shoigu, Russia’s Minister of Defence, additional funds will be provided under the federal programme covering the basing system of the Black Sea Fleet.
Under the Russian Ministry of Defence plans, in light of the recent annexation of Crimea the existing programme will be seriously adjusted and is a direct response to increased US Navy activities in the Black Sea.
