The UK’s restart of its Type 31e light frigate programme will be fought between three designs, after the government announced that Competitive Design Phase (CDP) contracts will be awarded to a consortia led by BAE Systems, Babcock and Atlas Elektronik UK.
The three contracts, as revealed on 10 December, were valued at £5 million ($6.3 million) each.
In July it was reported that the MoD would restart the Type 31e programme ‘due to insufficient compliant bids received for an effective and robust competition.’
A statement from Atlas Elektronik UK (AEUK) revealed that it will lead a consortium including thyssenkrupp Marine
