MSPO 2017: Shipbuilders continue to position for Orka programme

European manufacturers continue to jostle for Poland’s ongoing Orka programme, which will see a new class of three submarines constructed for the Polish Navy.

The programme is one of a number currently open for competition in the region, somewhat bucking the general trend for reduced naval and maritime expenditure. 

Saab displayed its A26 model shown with vertical launch tubes at MSPO in Kielce as the company maintained its efforts to secure the Orka deal.

Poland has specified that cruise missile capability is desired for its future submarines, which could be accommodated through the vertical launch system integrated into the A26
