Korea opens fire on intruding Chinese fishing fleet
The Korea Coast Guard (KCG) was forced to take stringent measures against intruding Chinese fishing boats on 19 December.
In the confrontation, KCG personnel fired 249 warning shots from a 7.62mm machine gun and 5.56mm rifles.
After a fleet of 44 Chinese boats was spotted operating within South Korea’s EEZ, 98km from the island of Gageodo in the Yellow Sea, the KCG’s West Sea division despatched four patrol boats.
