Indian Navy to purchase BAE Systems guns
India’s Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) has approved a programme to procure 127mm calibre guns for the Indian Navy, the Ministry of Defence announced on 27 April.
The navy will purchase 13 of the weapons from BAE Systems to fulfil a long outstanding requirement.
The guns will be fitted onboard new Indian Navy surface vessels to provide fire support and engagement of targets on land. The guns have an engagement range of 24km, which can be extended by using extended range munitions.
