Deal done for UK’s future Type 31 frigates
With minimal fuss and an absence of fanfare, the UK MoD has awarded a contract to Babcock on 15 November for the build and delivery of five Type 31 frigates for the UK Royal Navy.
Babcock had been named as preferred bidder in the summer following a stop-start competition involving two other rival designs and one that is intended to rejuvenate the UK’s shipbuilding sector.
An MoD spokesperson told Shephard: ‘Today we have signed a contract with Babcock for the design and build of five Type 31 general purpose frigates. We expect to have the first ship in
