ADAS 2016: Taiwan shipbuilders seek exports

About two decades ago, Taiwan private shipbuilders began constructing Taiwan coast guard cutters, and now some companies are also focusing on overseas markets, especially in the maritime law enforcement sector.

Lung Teh Shipbuilding, builder of the Tuo Chiang-class corvette for the Republic of China Navy (ROCN), is well known internationally for its patrol craft. Customers include Cyprus, Hong Kong, Japan, Kuwait, Macau, Oman and Singapore, for example.

Hong Kong Marine Police and Hong Kong Customs are repeat customers, while Lung Teh is currently building 19m patrol interdiction boats and 14m interceptors for the Singapore Police Coast Guard.
