EW Europe: Rising COMINT role for submarines

The proliferation of radio frequency (RF) communications in conflict zones around the world’s littorals means the submarine is an increasingly important communications intelligence (COMINT) platform. 

That’s an argument put forward by EW specialists Plath, which offers a range of COMINT suites that exploit the latest receiver, computer and antenna technologies.

COMINT tasks are subordinated to vessel safety so when under threat from anti-submarine warfare (ASW) platforms, the system’s role is communications ESM (C-ESM) and tactical COMINT,  Torsten Düsing, Plath’s technical marketing manager and business case manager for naval solutions, explained.
