Core components of the first Patriot SAM system to be used by Romania have arrived in the country.

The Romanian MoD announced on 19 August that the equipment ‘and related materials’ will be sent to the national air defence training centre in Capu Midia, for acceptance tests.

These tests are scheduled to finish in October, followed by training for personnel from the 74th Patriot Regiment in line with the specific configuration of the Romanian equipment.

In 2021 collective training of crews will continue with US assistance, covering operating and maintenance skills, as well as the techniques, tactics and procedures necessary to use the system.

Raytheon and Lockheed Martin are the prime contractors on the programme.
