Paris Air Show: Diehl’s Safran deal proposes new glide munition

Diehl Defence and Safran signed a cooperation agreement on 17 June at the Paris Air Show to develop a new glide munition to equip current and future air platforms of the French and German air forces.

Dubbed Hussar, the tactical lightweight air-to-ground munition is planned to be a precision-guided effector for use against asymmetric targets such as 4x4 ‘technical’ pickups, small units and soft targets.

Although unpowered, the 20kg Hussar will have a loiter time of up to 1h and targeted through a baseline semi-active laser to provide a circular error probability of 1m.
