VXX presidential helicopter advances

2nd April 2014 - 16:13 GMT | by Jonathan Tringham in London

The US VXX Presidential helicopter acquisition programme was slated to commence system development in March, according to a new report by the Government Accountability Office (GAO).

In its annual report to Congress on 38 major US weapons programmes, issued on 31 March, the GAO found that NAVAIR had made sufficient progress ‘leveraging mature technologies’ to allow the VXX programme to progress to the system development phase.

Sikorsky, with the S-92, is expected to be the sole bidder for the VXX contract, after AgustaWestland and Bell-Boeing both announced their withdrawal from the Marine One tender, blaming anti-competitive requirements.
