The US state department has approved a potential foreign military sale of UH-60M Black Hawk utility helicopters and associated parts, equipment and logistical support to Saudi Arabia, the Defense Security Cooperation Agency announced on 14 October.

The estimated value of the proposed sale is $500 million.

The government of Saudi Arabia has requested the helicopters for search and rescue, disaster relief, humanitarian support, counterterrorism, and combat operations.

In addition to the nine UH-60M Black Hawk utility helicopters requested, the proposed sale will include twenty-one T700-GE-701D engines (eighteen installed and three spares), twenty embedded Global Positioning Systems with Inertial Navigation System (GPS/INS) (eighteen installed and two spares), twelve AN/AAR-57 Common Missile Warning Systems (CMWS) (nine installed and three spares), and twenty M240H 7.62mm machine guns.

A range of on-board survivability and protection system equipment, as well as spares and logistical support has also been requested.
