US confirms Israel to get six V-22s

Israel is set to become the first foreign operator of the Bell Boeing V-22 Osprey, with Pentagon officials confirming the sale of six tiltrotors to the Israeli Defence Force (IDF).

The US has agreed to expedite the sale and delivery of six new V-22 Osprey tiltrotors to bolster Israel’s ‘self-defence capabilities’, US secretary of defence Chuck Hagel announced during a speech in New York on 31 October.

The announcement comes as the US government looks to express solidarity with Tel Aviv, amid growing concerns regarding the potential threat to regional security presented by Syria and Iran.
