For US Army aviation Chinook comes out winner, other fleets ramp down

US Army leaders have billed their FY19 budget request as a jumping-off point for the FY20 budget, one they say will contain major changes to acquisition programmes.

For FY19, though, the service has laid out plans to spend $4.1 billion for aircraft procurement and intends to curtail purchases for programmes like its UH-60M Black Hawk while the Chinook comes out a winner.

Budget plans come as the Trump administration works through ways to shift defence priorities to position the country against near-peer advisories like Russia and China. The army, in conjunction, is also looking at ways to modernise and prepare
