UH-60 aviators thank Air Comm for heating their helicopters in Afghanistan
The effectiveness of Air Comm's UH-60 cabin heaters inspired a group of grateful Army aviators to publicly thank the company recently at the Army Aviation Association of America annual convention.
Acting on behalf of brigade commander Col James Richardson, members of the 101st Airborne Aviation Brigade presented Air Comm president Keith Steiner with a mission flag and certificate. The aviators had recently returned from supporting Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan, where winter temperatures can drop to below zero.
The 14 lb heater system, which was jointly developed by Air Comm and Sikorsky Aircraft, uses engine bleed air and Air Comm's miniature heater ejectors to provide substantial heating throughout the aircraft cabin without using heavy, high-amp blowers, and without impacting storage capacity in the aft transition area of the helicopter.
'I know I speak for everyone at Air Comm and Sikorsky [manufacturer of the UH-60] when I say that we are proud to supply products that support the efforts of our military', Steiner said. 'It really brings it full circle to accept this honour on behalf of our company… to see what a dramatic impact our product has for troops in the field is extremely gratifying.'
Air Comm, through Sikorsky Aircraft, provides heaters for UH-60A, L and M model helicopters.
