Serco Sea King maintenance contract extended
Serco will continue to assist AgustaWestland in the maintenance of the UK Ministry of Defence’s Sea King helicopter aircraft, following the extension of its Integrated Operational Support contract.
This extension, worth over £7 million, will see Serco continue the work from April 2013 until December 2015. Work will continue to be performed at Royal Navy Air Station Yeovilton.
Under the contract, the Serco team at Yeovilton will continue to service various components of the aircraft ensuring they are fit for use and will also continue providing the aircraft with a detailed maintenance work package that involves stripping the aircraft, inspecting and servicing before rebuilding and testing prior to returning back to the active service fleet.
The Sea King fleet comprises aircraft which are used for various purposes including search and rescue services, troop carrying and logistics support.
Karen Smart, director of the defence business unit’s Front Line Command business, Serco, said: ‘Serco is privileged to have been awarded the contract extension to maintain the Sea King aircraft fleet as they are instrumental in providing search and rescue services across the country. Serco has been running both parts of the operation for over four years and this extension will secure the jobs of the aircraft maintenance teams for a further two and a half years.’
