Saudi helicopter force stands up

The first operational brigade of the Saudi Arabian National Guard (SANG) will receive 12 Boeing AH-6i armed scout helicopters in May as the new aviation force begins to assume its ‘internal security’ role.

Under a plan conceived by the Saudi royal family only eight years ago, the Saudi Ministry of the National Guard (MNG) is creating a diverse helicopter capability, including the introduction of four different types, from scratch.

Maj Gen Frank Muth, programme manager at the US Army’s Office of the PM-SANG, said the next key step in this process was standing up the 1st Aviation Brigade (AVN BDE)
