SAR 2011: Helicopter manufacturers eye the Arctic

While China and Brazil are widely regarded as the next big helicopter markets to be tapped, AgustaWestland says it’s also looking at future opportunities in the Arctic Ocean.
 
The company said that the melting ice pack of the Arctic will create a range of new opportunities for commerce and energy exploration and that could bring with it an untapped new market for rotary-wing aircraft.
 
'Helicopters will clearly play an integral part in any circumstances to meet those particular national interests,' said Richard Luck, specialised helicopter development lead at AgustaWestland, speaking at the SAR 2011 conference in Bournemouth.
