Safran Electronics and Defense will supply avionics systems to Airbus Helicopters for the US Army’s new UH-72A Lakota helicopters, the company announced on 28 March.

The US Army has awarded contracts to Airbus Helicopters for the delivery of 51 Lakotas. The awards came in two contracts with the initial award for 35 UH-72A Lakotas and a contract modification to deliver an additional 16 shipsets.

Safran’s avionics package consists of an autopilot system, attitude and heading reference system and a data acquisition unit.

Trice Smith, president and CEO of Safran Electronics and Defense, Avionics USA, said: ‘We are proud to be a part of the Lakota programme and to partner with Airbus Helicopters to deliver on-cost and high-quality avionics equipment. This is a great achievement for our customer and our supply chain partners.'
