Safran to supply Korean helicopter engines

Safran Helicopter Engines has been selected by Korean Aerospace Industries (KAI) to supply engines for its Light Civil Helicopter (LCH) and Light Armed Helicopter (LAH), it was announced on 6 June.

KAI, Hanwha Techwin and the Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA) have selected Safran to supply the new design Arriel 2L2 engine for the LAH. Additionally, KAI has selected the Arriel 2C2 engine for the LCH.

Hanwha Techwin and Safran Helicopter Engines have signed an agreement to jointly develop and produce the Arriel 2L2 in South Korea. Under license-production, Hanwha Techwin will manufacture major parts and conduct final engine assembly and tests in its Changwon plant before delivering the final engines to KAI. It will also be responsible for the maintenance, repair and operations of the Arriel 2L2 for the LAH.
