Russian high-speed testbed revealed

A high-speed helicopter testbed based on a Mi-24K attack helicopter will take to the air for the first time in late 2015, it has emerged.

Originally developed within the framework of the RACHEL (Russian Advanced Commercial Helicopter) programme, the rotorcraft was shown to the public for the first time at this year’s MAKS aerospace exhibition held near Moscow between 25 and 30 August.

A full-scale testing and evaluation campaign will be conducted in 2016, with the testbed intended to test a new rotor system with an all-new rotor hub and composite blades. It is hoped this will enable
