The Russian Navy's Pacific Fleet aviation base has taken delivery of a new Mi-8AMTSh-VA helicopter, the Russian Ministry of Defence announced on 20 February.

The helicopter is an Arctic variant, and will be deployed from the Kamchatka base for a range of tasks in the Pacific Fleet's Arctic responsibility zone.

The helicopter is fitted with a specialised engine start system that enables operations in temperatures as low as -60C, along with a special thermal isolation and heat system.

The aircraft has an operational range of 1,400km with additional fuel tanks.
