Rockwell Collins has received a contract to support operational readiness of avionics on the US Army’s CH-47F Chinook helicopter fleet, the company announced on 8 November.

The five-year contract, awarded by the US Army Aviation and Missile Command Logistics Center, will see the company provide current component upgrades and additional component repair capabilities for the Common Avionics Architecture System (CAAS) on the fleet.

CAAS provides flight crew with situational awareness during missions. The system integrates multiple communications, navigation and mission subsystems through its flexible Flight2 open systems architecture design.

Rod Hall, principal program manager, rotary wing services for Rockwell Collins, said: ‘With this contract, we’re able to upgrade the first generation of CAAS hardware at substantial cost savings to the army.

‘Additionally, by including repair capabilities for the latest configuration of CAAS hardware, we’re able to expand the breadth of support provided which increases the functionality to end users.’
