Netherlands' MASE-equipped NH90 in testing

The first Royal Netherlands Air Force NH90 helicopter equipped with Terma's Modular Aircraft Survivability Equipment (MASE) pod has passed a comprehensive test programme.

The testing included ground, flight and certification tests ahead of operational use.

The MASE installation includes the ALQ-213 EW controller, a modular self-protection pod equipped with MILDS-F missile warning system, and the Advanced Countermeasures Dispenser System updated with the Terma's latest generation digital sequencer switch.

Mounted on a dedicated carrier, the pod is designed to protect the NH90 aircraft against IR seeking missiles; recognising threats and dispensing countermeasures without compromising other NH90 capabilities.

Terma’s system has been optimised to withstand the harsh salt water operating environment the helicopters are

exposed to, and the installation is practical to handle and operate from a helicopter deck on a frigate, including providing easy access to and installation of the pod even in rough weather conditions.

Terma received the contract in 2014 to integrate MASE onto the Netherlands' NH90 helicopters to meet current needs.
