Last month MTU Aero Engines delivered the last T64-100 engine to the German military, completing an upgrade programme that has been ongoing for 15 years.

After having assembled 247 T64-7 engines that were built under licence from General Electric for Germany’s CH-53G fleet, MTU Aero Engines commenced rework efforts on three trials engines in 1999. In 2003, the Bundeswehr awarded a contract for the upgrade of 46 T64-7 turboshaft engines to the engine manufacturer based in Munich. Additional orders followed, leading to a total of 166 engines that were upgraded to T64-100 standards between 1999 and 2014.
