Leonardo files another lawsuit to halt US Army Lakota buy

Airbus Helicopters is warning the Pentagon that its acquisition process is under attack by Italian defence company Leonardo. 

The warning came after Leonardo filed another lawsuit against the US Army that could hamstring efforts to purchase 35 UH-72 Lakota aircraft.

In this latest chapter, on 19 January Leonardo subsidiary AgustaWestland filed a bid protest in the US Court of Federal Claims that could stall army plans for a ‘sole source requirement’ to buy the Airbus platform with Fiscal Year 2017 dollars.

The lawsuit says that the army’s assertion that there should be a sole source contract due to cost ‘is unfounded’.
