Indian LCH flies

India's first indigenous attack helicopter has taken to the air for the first time.

The first prototype (TD-1) of the Light Combat Helicopter (LCH) took to the skies on 29 March.

Hindustan Aeronautics (HAL) said the 20-minute flight went smoothly and allowed the pilots to carry out low-speed low-altitude checks on the aircraft. They added that the performance of the helicopter and its systems was satisfactory.

HAL said the LCH is a dedicated attack helicopter derived from the Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH) and is fitted with weapon systems, mission systems and crashworthy wheel landing gear. The company said the helicopter also has in-built
