Heli-Power 2011: Eurocopter autorotation system may bring environmental benefits

A Eurocopter programme to improve the safety of single-engine helicopters may also bring benefits in the search for environmentally-friendly rotorcraft.

Eurocopter revealed the previously secret project on 4 October when it announced that Eurocopter test pilots had been flying an AS350 fitted with a supplemental electric motor, which would deliver power to the aircraft in the event of an engine failure, allowing a more manageable auto-rotation landing.
