Heli-Expo 2013: Turbomeca releases new engine

Turbomeca (Safran) used Heli-Expo 2013, held this week in Las Vegas, Nevada, to officially name the engine project it began in 2012.

‘Last year we decided to launch a brand new engine, which [has been] named TM800,’ explained Olivier Andriés, chairman and chief executive officer of Turbomeca.

‘It is an 1100 horsepower engine targeted to power twin engine helicopters in the range of 4 – 6 ton. And this TM800 engine has already got its first application with the X4 platform from Eurocopter.’

Among its advantages, he identified ‘up to 15% lower fuel consumption over today’s models’.
