The recent technical flight of the Bangalore-built Light Utility Helicopter (LUH) on 6 September could result in Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) winning an order for nearly 200 additional units from the military. This is in addition to a current order for 187 LUHs.

An Indian Army official told Shephard, ‘We expect this project to move fast as HAL’s helicopter division is its strongest among all its businesses.’The type is supposed to roll out by 2018, although the official predicted it would more likely be 2020.

Entire production of the indigenous 3t LUH will be shifted to HAL’s new helicopter
