Germany to send WS-61 Westland Sea King helicopters to Ukraine
Germany has committed to sending Ukraine six of its 21 retiring WS-61 Westland Sea King multirole, amphibious helicopters.
GE Aviation has been selected by the US Army to perform conceptual design and trade analysis on the Rotorcraft Advanced Engine Integrated Controls System (RAEICS) programme.
The 24-month project will see GE Aviation develop a conceptual design of an advanced engine control system to deliver propulsion capabilities for the army’s Future Vertical Lift (FVL) platforms.
The RAEICS programme will assess engine controls technologies and architectures, and explore approaches to integrate the advanced engine controls system with vehicle systems and subsystems. GE will participate with Sikorsky in this programme.
Harry Nahatis, general manager of advanced turboshaft programmes, GE Aviation, said: ‘We’re proud to build on our substantial FVL development work with the army.
‘This RAEICS contract will enable GE to offer more innovative approaches to engine control systems for FVL.’
GE is also currently taking part in the Future Affordable Turbine Engine programme and other technology programmes. These include the Advanced Affordable Turbine Engine, Alternative Engine Concepts Design and Analysis, Autonomous Sustainment Technology for Rotorcraft Operations and Advanced Variable Speed Power Turbine programmes.
